IN SHORT
Situated at the eastern-most edge within the City of Arts and Sciences Complex, the Serreria Bridge's deck is suspended from an inclined curved pylon built on the southern part of the site. The deck spans 180 meters (590 feet) and varies in total width from 35.5 to 39.2 meters (116.5 to 128.5 feet) and the pylon rises to a height of 118.6 meters (389 feet).
There are three supports. At the northern-most end, where the deck touches grade level, the deck rests on a concrete abutment by means of a pair of bearings that provide resistance to torsion. The second support point is the pylon base, where the steel box spine connects with the pylon, creating a fully fixed connection with the pile-cap by means of a composite steelconcrete box. On the southern-most end, the deck is supported by a pair of bearings on the abutment. The back-stay cables are anchored to a massive foundation at the southern edge of the bridge in order to achieve balance. The pylon is similar to a spiral curve form, reaching its maximum radius where it intersects with the deck. The curvature expresses the static forces of the structure, determined by an analysis of the minimum flexion effort. The angle of the pylon was determined by an analysis of the counter forces against the cable stays. The aesthetic effect of the pylon comes directly from the internal logic of the structure. The design places the 29 parallel stays cables at the center of the deck, anchored to the bridge's spine at intervals of five meters (16.5 feet). The back-stays consist of two groups of paired cables, which are placed in a vertical plane perpendicular to the spine axis with a slight angle in the plane to improve the pylon's stability.
The deck comprises two paved roadways, each 14.7-meter(48 feet) wide. An elevated pedestrian pathway made on granite tiles are placed in the centre and varies from 3.7 to 7.4 meters (12 to 24 feet) in width. The paved roadways are made with a special asphalt overlay fixed to an orthotropic deck, supported on cantilevered transverse girders. The deck will accommodate a total of eight traffic lanes and two lanes are reserved for public transportation. Instead of standing light fixtures, accent lighting are installed on the pylon and bridge's cables and lighting under the bridge will highlight the structure's profile, which create the reflections on the water below.
