IN SHORT
In a city of heritage, Mons ventures into mobility and contemporary architecture. Calatrava was commissioned to design the new multi-modal station and its surrounding infrastructure after winning the design competition in 2004. The new station's gallery bridging over the tracks and platforms will link two currently disconnected and distinct areas of the city: the less dense residential area in the north with the historic city in the south.
Towards the city at Place Léopold, the bus station and approximately 500 underground parking spaces will be located at the station's south entrance. To the north of the station, an underground building offering technical rooms and approximately 350 parking spaces will be built at the Place de la Gare/Place des Congrès. Upon completion, Mons Station will serve as a symbol of synergy between culture and cutting- edge technologies for the city.
